Teror is a city belonging to the province of Las Palmas, this is located on the island Gran Canaria. It is a city of pilgrimage, since its main tourist activity focuses on visiting the Basilica of the Virgen Del Pino, which is the patron saint of the Canary Islands.

Teror Geography
Teror is located in the northern part of the Gran Canaria, has a large area of 25.8 square kilometers. It borders the municipalities Las Palmas, Santa Brigidad, Vega de San Mateo, Firgas, Valleseco and Arucas, this being the fourth smallest municipality on the island Gran Canaria. On the other hand, it is one of the ten municipalities with the highest altitude of the whole island.
It is important to note that 14% of the surface of the island is included in the Canarian Network of Protected Natural Spaces,since it is home to the Doramas parks and the Protected Landscape of Holy Pine.
History of Teror
Teror was founded in the fifteenth century, this village was built in the forest that was located in the north of the island. This important development for the city was closely linked to the great Marian devotion for the time, since, thanks to the appearance of the image of the Virgen del Pino, Teror became a religious and pilgrimage center by the inhabitants of the Island Gran Canaria.
By the seventeenth century, Teror, had a great growth of its population and in its architecture, since for being a place of worship to the Virgen del Pino many important families were arriving, which brought prosperity to the town. For the nineteenth century the municipality of Teror is granted political and economic powers, giving it a presence both in the political and territorial spheres.

Basilica of Our Lady of the Pine
This is the most popular attraction of Teror, it was built in 1767 and despite going through some restoration retains its great architectural appearance. In this beautiful basilica rests the Virgen del Pino, patron saint of the diocese of the Canary Islands.
Its façade has 3 large doors, the middle being the largest. Inside it has the dressing room of Our Lady of the Pine, and the altar of the bound Christ.
House Museum of the Patrons of the Virgin
This is a house with a lot of history, since it was built in the seventeenth century and was owned by the Manrique de Lara family, which for 5 generations have been the patrons of the virgen del pino. Inside this house we can find the room which was the place of accommodation of Néstor álamo, chronicler of Teror.
A curious fact is that formerly in this house was the resting place of the silver throne and the treasures of the virgen del pino.
Calle Real de la Plaza
This is one of the most important places of the town, since the political, social, religious and economic activities of Teror have passed through it.
This is a street that by tradition is very commercial and today there are the oldest shops and shops in the city, such as the English hotel and the hotel el pino.
It has a great architecture, despite having been adapted over time to each of the circumstances of the times, it maintains its distinctive touch, as are the wooden balconies.
Cistercian Monastery

This square was built to commemorate the origin of the Terorense family María teresa Rodríguez del Toro y alayza, who in life was the wife of Simón Bolívar.

Finca de Osorio
This is a place where visits, exhibition and courses are offered in the nature classroom of Osorio, since it is located in the ancient jungle of Doramas.
Sour fountain
It is one of the most important places in Teror, since it was the source of income for the town hall. It is composed of 3 large springs, which are the Main, the Agua Agria and the Molino de En Medio.
Teror Viaduct
It is one of the most important architectural works of the city after the construction of the Basilica of the virgen del pino. This viaduct improved the connectivity of the city with the rest of the Gran Canaria, was opened to the public in 2010 and is 74 meters high and measures 215 meters long.
Wooden Balconies

The wood carving is made with Tea wood, which is a resinous wood of the Canarian pine, very popular in the town.

Festivities of Teror
Teror has a good number of celebrations a year, the main festival of Teror is celebrated on September 8,in which they honor the virgen del pino, where dozens of devotees come to Teror to celebrate their devotion.
After the day of the Virgin, the Day of the Marysis celebrated, in which the virgen del pino runs from the royal street to the entrance of the town, where to end the tour fireworks are launched for the enjoyment of the spectators.

The climate of Teror is very tolerable in its different seasons of the year.
