Tenerife, one of the most important islands in the entire Canary archipelago, keeps in itself incredible places and important parts of the history of the islands.

Knowing the whole island could take you more than you think, however, there are places that cannot be ignored. Today we want to recommend 10 places you have to see in Tenerife.

Garachico

Garachico, as particular as its name, is one of the places that keeps in its essence the history of the island of Tenerife. It is one of those paradoxical places that tell difficult moments for the population of the island but that in turn and thanks to those events, naturally became a beautiful place for those who visit them and love nature.

Proof of this are the rock pools that were formed after a volcanic explosion that occurred in 1706, which destroyed much of the town.

On the other hand, you can also find a contrast of nature and history, the beautiful streets of the historic center, where the Plaza Libertad and other important buildings star in the walk, which you can know by making a private tour or guided by a tourism company.

Candlemas

Religion is also an important and fundamental part of the culture of the population of Tenerife, it is noticeable in each place, in its history and in its customs. The Villa Mariana de la Candelaria is one of those places that with its name alone take us to an atmosphere of devout history towards the Virgin Mary and her appearance on this island.

In the Villa you will find as the greatest attraction and cultural, religious and architectural treasure the great Basilica of the Virgen de la Candelaria, with a capacity of up to 5 thousand parishioners and that in the month of August, specifically on the 15th, falls short before visitors who come to worship the Patron Saint of this island.

Teno Rural Park

Another of the wonderful attractions that you will find on the island of Tenerife is in the Teno Rural Park and we are not talking about technological attractions or something similar. Rather you will be surprised by a paradise full of natural landscapes that house in themselves the riches of the nature of the island.

The Teno Rural Park is located in the northwest of the island and has nothing to envy to the Anaga Rural Park, because in it you will see large cliffs from where you can see much of the island and its landscape, forests with the abundant species of laurasilva characteristic in Tenerife, valleys and beaches.

Even in its adjacencies you can enjoy the culinary culture of Tenerife in the Farmer's Market.

The Orotava

La Orotava is one of the most beautiful areas of Tenerife. And yes, "pretty" is the word that can define this place that is right in the middle of a valley but that encloses in itself a kind of fairy tale where flowers are the protagonists.

In this sense, in the Orotava there are several houses that decorate this part of the island just by seeing its facades decorated with natural flowers and that when you enter them continue to surprise you with the magic of nature.

An example of this is the house of the balconies, where these spaces in addition to enjoying their beauty allow you to contemplate unforgettable panoramic views.

The Lagoon

Contrary to what many may think, it is not a lake, but the beautiful city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a place that shows the history of the island through its buildings and walks that will take you to the first centuries of Tenerife.

It is considered a world heritage site, because this city has old buildings and streets that are maintained with their original cobblestones, the Plaza del Adelantado and San Francisco, will take you to the colonial era.

You can also find great architectural treasures such as the church of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción and the Salazar Palace.

Teide National Park

If it comes to spectacular places, we could dedicate an entire section to talk about the imposing and majestic Teide National Park, one of our favorite places on the island of Tenerife, which you undoubtedly have to visit.

It is a place that mixes the mysticism of the Guanche culture along with the impressive samples of nature, on a volcanic terrain whose last eruption took place in 1909.

You can visit it by hiking or through the cable car and reach the same summit that is more than 3500 meters high where you find the crater of this wonderful volcano.

It is important that you can book your visit to the park in advance, as the large influx of visitors can make it difficult to get tickets especially in high seasons.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife

It would be crazy to go to Tenerife and not visit the capital of the island. And it is that Santa Cruz de Tenerife keeps an endless number of places that you will take in your heart and that will practically embrace you with the current and ancient cultural essence of the island.

If what you want is to soak up the culture and history of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the island in general, let the buildings such as the castle of San Juan Bautista or the battery of San Francisco  be the ones who tell you the story.

On the contrary, if you want to know a little more about the current city life, there are several places where you will enjoy the island atmosphere of now such as the Auditorium building.

Anaga Rural Park

Tenerife is home to the largest natural reserves of the Canary archipelago and not for nothing has several parks declared natural heritage of humanity. Another of the places you should visit in Tenerife is the Anaga Rural Park, a unique place that brings together several types of landscape and a gigantic natural company itself.

The park is located in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and occupies several municipalities. It is one of the natural parks of the island and is home to several Integral Nature Reserves.

It has more than 14 thousand hectares and the route can be done by private car or public transport and even if you are brave you can climb on foot. But yes, do not forget the hydration and wear the right footwear.

Cliffs of the Giants

Another result of nature and geological features are the Cliffs of the Giants, which represents an important relief of the island near the coast. This place was highly respected by the Guanches and currently represents one of the busiest tourist urbanizations in Tenerife.

It is located in the Teno Rural Park and is estimated to be more than 600 meters high. Without a doubt you will not want to leave the island without a panoramic view of the place and of course a photo to remember.

Millenary Drago

Vegetable symbol of the island of Tenerife and part of its shield. Without a doubt, something that you can not miss in Tenerife is the Millenary Drago. And if with a photo you can be impressed, imagine being in front of a tree of more than 18 meters high and a crown of approximately 20 meters.

A significant element for the inhabitants of Tenerife that today has around it an exhibition of herbaceous species that gather in the so-called Parque el Drago.
